The New World Sport - Bashing Christ and ChristiansBy: Mary Mostert September 29, 1999 The New York Times reports today that the Brooklyn Museum of Art has filed a lawsuit in Federal court accusing Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of "violating the First Amendment" by threatening to withdraw city funds from the museum over the showing of pretended British "art" that features, among other works, a portrait of the Virgin Mary stained with a clump of elephant dung. The Mayor feels that the tax funds of the city, collected from Catholics among others, ought not be used to subsidize an all out attack on their faith. Hillary Clinton and the Museum violently disagree. They believe that the Museum has an unfettered "right" to tax those revolted by their "art" work to display their works. "This litigation is not just about the Brooklyn Museum of Art," Robert S. Rubin, the chairman of the museum's board, said during a tense late afternoon press conference in the museum's lobby. "It is being undertaken in the interests of all public institutions -- museums, universities and libraries -- that are dedicated to the free exchange of ideas and information, and in the interests of the people they serve." Giuliani's response was immediate. He ordered the cancellation of the next scheduled payment to the Museum, $497,554, which is due on Friday. Giuliani is in the process of canceling the Museum's lease on the City's building, based on the fact that the Museum board has "decided to violate state law, violate the provisions of their lease with the city of New York, and more importantly, violate the bylaws that they operate under," said Deputy Mayor Joseph J. Lhota, who attended yesterday's meeting of the museum board along with Corporation Counsel Michael D. Hess.
In Kosovo, from September 13-18 all the bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church met with the Serbian Patriarch, His Holiness Pavle, to consider "all circumstances that our Church and our people, especially the people in Kosovo and Metohia, found themselves in, particularly after the aggression of NATO pact on our country. It was concluded that we, as the people, have been in peril of spiritual and biological extermination. In a written statement they released, the Holy Assembly members noted: "...first of all, (we) express true sorrow for all the people innocently victimized in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and in the Republic of Serbia, and especially in its southern region - Kosovo and Metohia, regardless of their religious affiliation or nationality; they, crucified with their people in this territory and worried about the destiny of hundreds of thousands of the people expelled from their centuries-long hearths, as well as about the future both of their people and of those who live with it, invite the leaders of all political parties, all the people and all of those who have confidence in the Serbian Orthodox Church - the institution above all political, national, and other differences, by its intrinsic nature interested in good and prosperity of all the people - to listen to its voice and its previous appeals, to stand up in this tragic moment and elevate themselves over all individual interests and interests relating exclusively to a party, and to offer themselves for the common good, for the sake of their own salvation, the salvation of their people and the future of their children. At the same time, the Assembly Fathers appeal to the international community to observe the basic principals of the human rights and freedoms, that it verbally strives for very much and applies in its member countries, when it comes to our people also. They expect from and request the international forces in Kosovo and Metohia to prevent further suffering of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Serbian people and other non-Albanian population, as well as to do everything to enable the return of all the persecuted and expelled people to their centuries-long hearths. The Assembly also expects from the international forces to help the Serbian people to exercise its right to live, at least on the territory on which it has existed for more than 15 centuries. "In order that the ethnic cleansing of the Serbian people and of some other ethnic communities in Kosovo and Metohia should be stopped - the cleansing that unfortunately happens at the dawn of the third millenium after the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the presence of the military and civil forces (KFOR and UNMIK) from the countries that consider themselves to be Christian and very civilized - the Assembly has addressed an appropriate protest to the United Nations, as well as an appeal to the UNESCO, to stop immediately any further destruction and seizing of the Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo and Metohia, and to prevent the destruction of the remaining spiritual and cultural treasure which represents not only Serbian heritage but also the heritage of the European and world culture. "The Serbian Orthodox Church hopes that the present afflictions of all people, and of our people too, will stop through the efforts of all men who nurture the same desire in their hearts. It prays to God of peace and love to give us strength to endure these afflictions, and when they have passed to create the atmosphere of mutual respect and of joint life in freedom and tolerance. The Serbian Orthodox Church has always striven to achieve those spiritual values, and it will unselfishly continue to do so in future also." The Bishops' reasoned and civilized appeal was immediately answered by incredibly barbaric actions on the part of the KLA on September 21st, which was totally unreported by the Western media. Serbia-info reported, "Prizren, Sept. 25 (Tanjug) - A six-month-year-old Serbian baby from Prizren, was first kidnapped by ethnic Albanian terrorists, and then burned alive, Tanjug has learned from the Center for Peace and Tolerance in that town. "The baby's "fault" was that its Serbian mother, Dragana Mladenovic, had refused to leave Prizren." And what is the response of the dominant media in America and Britain? It hasn't even bothered to mention that a Serb baby was burned alive by its Albanian kidnappers.
The lead story in the South China Morning Post today is the discovery by a Reuters' Television team of 10 badly charred bodies in the back of a burned out Toyota pickup truck in the western outskirts of Dili. A witness to the murder of the 10 Timorese, who are Catholics, 38-year-old Alberto A.C. Pereira, told Reuters that he saw the Muslim Indonesian police and militiamen execute the occupants of the truck with machetes about two weeks ago and then set the pickup and the bodies on fire after dousing them with petrol.
In America a teenager at Columbine, when asked if she believed in Jesus Christ said "yes." She was shot dead on the spot. Eighty Branch Davidians, and seven church members in Texas recently were killed in very different incidents - yet incidents with some disturbing similarities.
Do we have some kind of worldwide trend going on here, or merely a series of disconnected "incidents in which Christians are targeted?" The Serbs have stubbornly refused to join in the move towards globalism. In fact, on March 25th, President Clinton made it clear that the Serbs refusal to become part of the New World Order of globalism ruled from US dominated organizations could not be tolerated: "If we've learned anything from the century drawing to a close, it is that if America is going to be prosperous and secure, we need a Europe that is prosperous, secure undivided and free. We need a Europe that is coming together, not falling apart; a Europe that shares our values and shares the burdens of leadership. That is the foundation on which the security of our children will depend." What do the events of the last six months indicate that Clinton's "values" and "burdens of leadership" mean? Increasingly the New World Order under Clinton looks a whole lot like the Old World order of imperialism to me. And that imperialism seems remarkably hostile to any group that takes its Christianity too seriously. To comment: mmostert@originalsources.com |
